He was born in Aghkoynek village of Gazakh region on January 19, 1965. In 1982, after graduating from high school no. 1 in Gazakh city, he started his career in motor company.Chobanov Shamoy was called up to the Soviet Army in 1983. In 1985 he was demobilized from the army and returned to his native land of Gazakh region. He continued working at the factory where he previously was working as a mechanic.

 In 1989, he started working in the Police Station in Gazakh. Then the armenians militants started continuously attacking the villages of Baghani, Ayrim, Yukhary Askipara, Kheyrimli. In order to ensure the safety of the population in these villages, Shamoy established police posts with his friends. Brave police officers often came face to face with the armenian militants. And they would not allow armenian bandits to carry out their dirty deeds.

On the 19th of August 1990 Shamoy was accompanying the bus that was traveling to Yukhari Askipara village. The armenian gunmen suddenly attacked the bus in place calle “Qanli dere” (Bloody gorge). Shamoy quickly got off the bus and a bloody battle began. The enemy retreated, but passengers were wounded and some even died.

In this battle Gazakh land lost one of its brave sons. And this son was Shamoy Chobanov who won the respect of the villages as a patriotic and brave son of the motherland.

He was not married.

Chobanov Shamoy Mahyaddin was posthumously awarded the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan" by the decree # 264 of the president of the Azerbaijan Republic dated October the 8th, 1992.

 He was buried in Aghkoynek village.

 Aghkoynek village school is named after him.
