The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Is Updated to Keep the Style-Conscious Happy

A mere month after revealing the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV, the brand is showing off the 2020 GLC coupe, which receives the same litany of minor updates as its squareback sibling. The coupe, of course, is the more expensive and less practical GLC offering-still with four doors and a hatchback-that Mercedes says is for "individuals who seek a vehicle with extraordinary looks." Sure!

As the looks are the main draw of the GLC coupe, we'll start with them. A diamond-pattern grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and standard LED head- and taillights with different graphics are all new. The pictured GLC is equipped with the AMG Line body kit, which has larger grille openings and sportier design details. The GLC also receives some fresh color and wheel options.

There are new upholstery colors and trim options available for the interior, too, but the bigger news inside is the completely overhauled tech. The standard central screen is larger than before at 10.3 inches and runs Mercedes-Benz's new MBUX infotainment system, which can be controlled via a touchpad, with voice commands, or by touching the screen itself. A newly optional 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster pairs with the MBUX system to add more functionality. Some active-safety features that weren't previously on offer, including adaptive cruise control with steering assist and lane-change assist, are now part of the Driver Assistance package.

While the GLC300 is still powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, the engine is new and is shared with the C-class. Its rating of 255 horsepower is 14 horses more than the old motor produced, while the torque (273 lb-ft) remains the same; Mercedes gives no new performance estimates. As before, the GLC300 coupe is offered only with 4Matic all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission; the squareback GLC300 comes with rear-wheel drive as standard.

The 2020 GLC300 coupe will make its formal debut in April at the New York auto show and will go on sale by the end of the year. Pricing hasn't been announced, but it shouldn't be much more expensive than the $48,295 starting price of the 2019 model. Expect the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and GLC63 models to receive similar updates in the coming months, too.
